Purpose

First partnering, but without touch — removes the intimacy hurdle while introducing attunement, following, and shared leadership. The on-ramp to listening to another body.

Setup

Pairs facing, palms up ~15 cm apart, no contact.

Play

  1. Person A moves a hand slowly; B's hand follows as if magnetically linked, keeping the gap constant.
  2. After a minute, switch leader. Then: "Let go of who's leading. Let it become mutual."
  3. Expand: the following spreads from hand to whole body. The pair moves through space, still no contact, still linked.
  4. Optional bridge: let the palms finally touch and continue — the first consented contact of the day.

Cues

"Keep the gap alive." · "Who's leading? Can you not know?" · "Let your feet get involved."

Variations

  • Easier: stay seated, hands only.
  • Harder: eyes softer, whole-body, travel across the room.

Debrief

"Could you tell when leadership dissolved? How did that feel?"

Watch For

Pair the shyest people with warm, patient partners. Rotate so no one's stuck.
