Purpose
Isolates and trains the rolling point of contact — the single most central skill in CI — first solo against the floor, then with a partner.
Setup
Space to move on the floor. Slow-to-mid music.
Play
- Solo: "Lie down. Find where your body touches the floor. Now roll slowly, so the point of contact travels continuously across your body — never lifting off, never jumping. Trace it."
- "Follow that rolling point around your whole body — shoulder, back, hip, thigh."
- Partner: pairs make one point of contact (shoulder to shoulder). "Now let that point roll — across shoulders, down arms, along backs — never breaking, never jumping."
- Let it become a slow continuous dance led entirely by the traveling point.
Cues
"Continuous, not stepwise." · "The point leads; you follow." · "Where does it want to go?"
Variations
- Easier: stay solo on the floor.
- Harder: eyes closed; standing; add gentle weight through the point.
Debrief
"When did the point 'lead' you somewhere you didn't plan? Could you follow without steering?"
Watch For
The urge to jump the point to a new spot — that's not the skill. Keep it rolling and connected. This is the game you'll return to all form long.
