Purpose

Deliberately trains dancing while upside-down, spinning, and spatially disoriented — the state where the body's righting reflexes lead. The frontier where advanced CI becomes reflex-led art.

Setup

Fluent dancers, fully warm, expert rolling. Soft floor, big margins.

Play

  1. "Play with orientation: inversions, spins, rolls where up and down keep changing."
  2. "Let your reflexes take over. You've trained your body to find the floor — now trust it while disoriented."
  3. "Dance the moments where you genuinely don't know which way is up, and let the recovery be the dance."

Cues

"Trust the reflex you've trained." · "Disorientation is information, not danger." · "Let the recovery flow, don't slam the brakes."

Variations

  • Easier: controlled inversions with clear entries/exits.
  • Harder: sustained disorientation woven through momentum and flight.

Debrief

"What happened in the moments you couldn't orient? Did your trained reflexes catch you?"

Watch For

Dizziness and misjudged floors are real hazards; keep durations short and margins huge. Any dancer opts out of any inversion. Necks are precious — no weight through an inverted neck.
