The Spiral

④ Flowing Contact

Purpose

A continuous helix: two bodies winding up and down around a shared axis without stopping. Integrates level change, rotation, and momentum into one seamless phrase — the quality that makes advanced CI look like a single flowing braid.

Setup

Pairs, warm, clear space.

Play

  1. "Find a point of contact and a shared vertical axis between you."
  2. "Now spiral — wind slowly down toward the floor around that axis, then wind back up — continuously, like a double helix turning."
  3. "Let the contact roll as you spiral; let momentum carry the turns."
  4. "Never stop and restart — find the endless spiral."

Cues

"One continuous helix." · "Let the turn carry you down and up." · "Roll the point as you wind."

Variations

  • Easier: slow, small spirals staying upright.
  • Harder: full floor-to-standing spirals; add weight-sharing through the wind.

Debrief

"Where did the spiral flow on its own? Where did you have to force a turn?"

Watch For

Continuous turning can bring dizziness — pace it; keep knees soft on the descents; protect the point of contact through the level changes.
