Purpose
Trains the core skill of following the point of contact in its simplest form, and introduces dancing with eyes closed — trusting touch over sight.
Setup
Pairs, one palm resting against partner's palm. One dancer closes eyes.
Play
- Eyes-open partner slowly leads the eyes-closed partner around via the hand contact only. Gentle, responsible.
- "Leader: take them somewhere safe and interesting. Follower: trust the hand."
- Switch roles. Then: "Both eyes closed. No leader. Let the hand decide."
Cues
"The hand is the whole conversation." · "Slow enough to be trustworthy." · "Follow the point, not your idea of where it's going."
Variations
- Easier: both eyes open.
- Harder: the contact point migrates from hand to forearm to shoulder while dancing.
Debrief
"Eyes closed — what changed? Was it easier to lead or follow?"
Watch For
The eyes-open leader is fully responsible for the blind partner's safety — no walls, no other pairs. Go slow.
