Purpose
The first true CI duet: a continuous improvised dance led by the rolling point of contact, integrating everything from Tier ②. This is "real" contact improv at an accessible flow.
Setup
Pairs, clear space. Mid-tempo, spacious music.
Play
- "Make one point of contact. Let it roll — like game #10 — but now let it travel anywhere, and let your whole bodies follow it into a continuous dance."
- "No planning. The point leads. You'll rise, turn, lower, wind around each other — all from following that traveling contact."
- "If you lose it, calmly find one new point and continue. Losing contact isn't failure — reconnecting is part of the dance."
- Run 5–7 minutes per configuration; re-partner.
Cues
"Follow, don't drive." · "Let it surprise you." · "Reconnect without apology." · "Come to stillness anytime you need."
Variations
- Easier: keep both feet mostly grounded; slow tempo.
- Harder: let more weight travel through the point; eyes closed; add pauses of shared weight (#14).
Debrief
"Who was leading? Could you tell? What was it like to not know where the dance was going?"
Watch For
This is where beginners start bracing or steering. Cue softening. Ensure enough space between pairs; assign zones if crowded.
