Purpose

A flowing qigong movement (from tai chi) that trains shifting weight side to side and moving from the center with continuous, unbroken flow — the exact qualities that make CI dancing effortless rather than muscled.

Setup

Standing, feet wider than shoulders, knees soft.

Play

  1. "Shift your weight slowly onto one foot, then the other — smooth, continuous, never stopping."
  2. "Let your hands float and circle in front of you, one rising as the other lowers, like slowly turning a large wheel — but the movement comes from the waist and center, not the arms."
  3. "The hands just go along for the ride. Everything flows from the shifting weight and turning center."

Cues

"Move from the center; the hands follow." · "Continuous — no stops or starts." · "Let the weight shift lead."

Variations

  • Easier: just the weight-shift, hands resting.
  • Deeper: add slow turning of the whole spine; close the eyes to feel the center.

Debrief

"What's it like to move from your center instead of your arms?"

Watch For

Knees soft and tracking over toes throughout.

Bridges To

The Rolling Point (#10), Rolling Point Duets (#12), Momentum Studies (#19) — center-led continuous flow.
